On the Roads - The Wanderers of Stokesley by Tim Allison
A history of those visitors to Stokesley in the early days who came from elsewhere, sometimes from very far away, and stayed for short periods before moving on. They were classed by a variety of names but the term 'Wanderer' fitted the bill. Of course, some did stay on and became Stokesley residents adding to the character of the town. This book covers the variety of Wanderers that came during the early 19th century and the early 20th century.

Deprivation and Poverty in Stokesley and District 1755 - 1834 by I E Ridley and D Franks
In this period in the Industrial Revolution the rich became richer but sadly the poor became poorer. Stokesley and district had its own share of deprivation and poverty exemplified by its own Workhouse for the unlucky poor and those not so unlucky were crammed into the "yards" in tiny dwellings in which the great majority of the poor lived.

Stokesley Ale Trail by Tim Allison [Out of Print]
At an earlier time Stokesley had 14 Inns and alehouses. This book tells of brewing and the different type of establishments to be found in Stokesley over the years. The Ale Trail allows one to complete a walk around the town, book in hand, and see those buildings which at one time supported the drinking habits of Stokesley residents and visitors.

Mang Stowsla by Tim Allison
Since early days Stokesley people have had a language almost of their own. This booklet is a compilation of some the words that are still remembered and often still used in the town with their root and meaning.
8 pages, £ 0.50 plus the cost of a 2nd class stamp. [In 2023, this was published by the Yorkshire Dialect Society in their annual Transactions].

The Cleveland Repertory and Stokesley Advertiser
The original was a monthly magazine published in Stokesley by William Braithwaite from January 1843 to December 1845.
Extracts of the news items have been transcribed by Beryl Turner covering Police Intelligence, Agriculture, Stokesley Races, Cricket Matches, Railways, Church and Chapel events, Inquests, Births, Marriages, Deaths, Visits to Redcar and many more snippets of gossip.
The area covered is broadly Old Cleveland centered on Stokesley but also includes Stockton, Middlesbrough, south west to Northallerton, and across the North York Moors to Staithes on the east coast. It gives an insight into life in an agricultural community in the mid 1840s.
Of great value to family, local and social historians, the book of 124 pages cost £ 8.50 but is now out of print. Therefore it has been made available as a Word document, in addition, a Name Index has been prepared also as a Word document.

Stokesley Directories 1793-1901
Over 4000 names of Gentry, Residents and Trades people in Stokesley taken from 19 directories between 1793 and 1901. They are listed by year and alphabetically by surname giving occupation and addresses; included are historical descriptions of the town in 1823, 1867 and 1901.
The book has 215 pages and cost £ 10.50. It is now out of print. Copies can be arranged with society secretary.

Stokesley Racecourse by Tim Allison
Many people don't realise Stokesley had its own racecourse for over 100 years. Following on from the description in the book 'Stokesley Ale Trail', this tells in more detail, its history. Characters and even intrigue are told of, along with a fairly comprehensive record of meetings and an index of names for those looking for family.
The book has 40 pages and cost £ 6.00 plus £ 1.00 p&p.

Stokesley Football - The early years by Tim Allison
This book is the first of a series telling the story of football at Stokesley. It covers all teams which have played for one of the town's teams. Read how it started and became the 'working man's sport'. Legal battles and tragedy are covered. This covers the period from start to the 1940's.
Further books will tell of subsequent history.
The book has 14 pages and cost £ 3.50 plus £ 1.00 p&p.

Climate or Weather - Stokesley Survives by Tim Allison
Today's residents give little thought to those living before the age of technology, when a period of bad weather hit the town. Our ancestors were a hardy breed, and this book tells of some of the disasters to hit the town. In today's age of the 'snow bomb', read how hardy they were.
The book has 38 pages and cost £ 6.00 plus £ 1.00 p&p.
